         He could see Cristiana standing waist deep in the river with her back to him as he pulled into the dirt drive of the Sacristy. She didn’t react to his presence even as he slammed the door of the truck and walked unflinchingly out into the cold water to join her. They’d been here before what felt like lifetimes ago, yet the fire in his veins as he placed his hand in the small of her back burned from an entirely different passion than it had that night.

         “I thought the water would help me center. It’s always been enough before,” She laughed, finally turning in his arms to face him, “Something was missin’ though,” She studied his face, her hand coming to rest over the exposed scar on his chest, “Help me, John. I need you.”

        Gently he guided her backward into the dark water, holding his breath as she closed her eyes and slipped underneath. The first time they met rewritten as he pulled her back into his arms and she slipped her hands into his hair. A broken sound dying in his throat as she pulled him down into her lips and granted him absolution. I knew nothing before…

       She shivered against him only half from the chill of the river, and he pulled back enough to look her in the eyes. I am yours if you want me…
