Giving your characters passions is a good thing! Giving your characters passions that are semi-contradictory or incongruous is even better. Because people do that all the fucking time. Example: I like plants and growing things and writing, but I also like knives and poisons and Wonder Woman. 

People are complex! It’s okay to write them that way.
