Star Wars is about family, so when a director makes the main villain in their movie murder his own family…it’s not because that character is secretly a hero.
In fact, it’s the absolute, 100% proof that that character is very, very evil, and is irredeemable.
Also, if a major movie franchise has a new character kill off one (or two) of the classic heroes that were in the first movie in the franchise, that the entire franchise was built around, it is a statement that this new character is evil.
Darth Vader was forgiven by one person in the original movies, due to that character’s familial connection with him (Luke never thought Vader could ever be good until he learned that he was his father, and then he wanted to make Vader good from that point forwards). When Kylo Ren was introduced into the franchise, he was given that same exact chance…and he murdered his father as he offered forgiveness. Then he went on to do his best to kill his uncle (which did result in his death even if it was indirectly, though not for lack of trying to do it directly). Both JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson have gone out of their way to show everybody that Kylo Ren is irredeemable, that not even familial love can save him, so for fuck’s sake, stop acting like he’s going to be redeemed. He is the villain.
