“The Minutemen fell apart because they were unorganized” no they fell apart because half of the Colonels just wanted to carry a gun and shoot things for money and when Colonel Ezra Hollis and his unit wanted to genuinely help people and carry on the Minutemen’s virtues with honor, Clint betrayed and killed them all, and the other chickenshit Colonels scattered because they personally stood for nothing. It was Clint’s betrayal, the betrayal of the coward Colonels and the lack of compassion, kindness and hope that untimately brought the end of the Minutemen at Quincy, the very things that Preston Garvey embodies and the only things that can really make the Commonwealth a better place.
exactly right.
Another fault in the original MM was that they were a standing army with no one paying them. So half-ish of the people were there for beliefs and the other half were just mercenaries looking for payment. The second they didn’t have a huge bounty from killing raiders things started to fall apart.
Preston doesn’t make that same mistake the second time around. When he asks you to recruit people, you are sent to recruit settlers. People who have an active investment that the Minutemen succeed.
You are more likely to help Joebob’s farmstead if it gets attacked because Joebob is between you and dangerous areas. Also, because Joebob will come and help you because ya’ll on the same team.
Preston’s training the farmers to be their own minutemen and has comparatively small groups(to the original MM) being the wandering patrols. I guarantee these patrols also are a form of a supply line and supplemental defense when needed.
I don’t know about you, but I would certainly buy into a system where it only costs me a couple percent of food and then all my neighbors can help me when I need it + I get trained to properly build defenses and fight for my own land.
The Minutemen are the people protecting the people.
